During Cannes Music Summit (June 6-8th 2017) the Cannes Music Award is presented to the individual, DJ, Industry Organization, Music Publisher or Record Label who has made an impact in the Music Industry.
The 2017 CMA this year will be presented to ELLIS RICH OBE Hon DMus and the presentation will be made on June 7th, 2017 19.30hrs at L’Annex Beach Club the venue for the Cannes Music Summit 2017 in association with MIDEM.
ELLIS RICH BIOGRAPHY
Ellis Rich OBE Hon DMus has been a fundamental part of the Music Industry for over fifty years.
From transcribing Queen songs at Feldman’s Music to chairing The Performing Right Society, working tirelessly to promote diversity, giving copyright seminars, chairing “punching above its weight” Music Charity “Small Green Shoots”, appearing on radio and television in the UK and the Caribbean, with a long spell as International Manager for EMI Music, charting as a recording artist to being a respected music publisher, he gave Simon Cowell his first real Music Industry job, was part of the team that discovered Mel and Kim and signed Blondie’s publishing to EMI.
In the 2011 Queen’s New Year Honours, Ellis was awarded the OBE “For Services to The Music Publishing Industry” and in 2012 was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Music by Anglia Ruskin Cambridge.
Recently Ellis has been discussing how Brexit could impact copyright legislation with UK Government’s Culture Media and Sport Department.
Throughout his career Ellis has been a regular MIDEM participant from the early days, and normally been accompanied by his long time and loyal associate, Andy Bailey, who has been at Ellis’ side for over 25 years.
Ellis currently serves as CEO for Supreme Songs who in 2017 celebrates over thirty years in business as an Independent Music Publisher.
